Hiring a doula? The earlier, the better!

One of the most common questions we see as doulas is...when should I start looking and what is the ideal time to add a doula or birthworker to my support team?

However, they can also serve as amazing resources throughout your pregnancy journey. Doulas can hold space for you, empower you to make informed decisions with evidence-based research and materials, and help to clarify misconceptions at any stage of your pregnancy.

Another reason to hire a doula early in your pregnancy is to establish connection and trust. Birth is a very intimate experience and it is important that you feel comfortable with your support team. Building a relationship with your doula over the course of your pregnancy ensures that you have someone on your side who knows how you like to be supported and understands your preferences and choices. Your doula should be someone who makes you feel safe, someone you trust. The longer you have to build that relationship, the better.

Finally, let's be real. The best doulas' schedules fill up FAST! Booking early in your pregnancy allows you greater options and ensures that you can hire the doula you feel most connected to and who is the best fit for you.

So...does that mean you can't hire a doula later in your pregnancy? Absolutely not!
